If there was one term I would use to describe myself, it would be an over thinker. A worrier. When my head gets a little too jumbled with stressful thoughts and worries, I like to take some time to organise. Just one quick google search has shown that I am not alone in this… many people who suffer with mental health, particularly anxiety, feel that a clear and organised environment can help the worrying thoughts and stress. Clean environment, clean head. This blog post is dedicated to all you other thinkers and worriers out there, with a list of my favourite organisation ideas that I personally use in everyday life! Even better… DIY organisation ideas!

TURN GLASS JARS INTO CATCHALLS

This is probably the most simple of organisation ideas… all you need is a jar! Most home shops sell jars very cheap, and some craft stores sell them in packs. For something a little extra, you can paint, add material, tape or ribbons onto the jar lid. These are great for storing loose change, pins, small pegs, or even herbs in the kitchen!

TURN YOUR OLD IRONING BOARD INTO A BULLETIN BOARD

Not only is this a great up-cycling project, but also adds a countrified piece of furniture into your home. Cut a piece of foam board (available at most craft shops) to fit your board, then cover it with a vintage quilt. Secure the quilt to the back of the board with a staple gun. And just like that, you have a unique bulletin board for any part of your home!

USE WOODEN CRATES FOR STORAGE

I saw this idea early last year after scrolling through Pinterest (the God of creativity). I was able to buy crates cheap from Etsy already stained, but you could get them cheaper and sand, stain or varnish them yourself! I placed two of the crates on my wall, and used them as book shelves. Living in the country, this created a rustic look that suited the house.

USE HATBOXES AS STORAGE

The picture below shows them being used as bathroom storage, but the beauty of these is that they can be used in any room. Much like the jar lids, you can decorate them yourself to suit the style, colour or feel of your home.

TURN A PAIR OF LADDERS INTO A DESK

Another piece of furniture to add a rustic feel into your home, this DIY up-cycling project is both easy and unique! Place a piece of wood in between two free standing wooden ladders, and place another piece of wood on top. There are so many different ways you can turn ladders into workspaces available on Pinterest, but this is my personal favourite. This design also allows extra room for storage baskets and decorations! Use the picture below as a guide… but don’t forget to secure the wood properly to the ladders!
